353ND Epoxy resin adhesive, also known as fiber optic adhesive, is suitable for the production of optical communication products, widely used in the production of optical devices such as fiber optic connector.

Product Application:

1)353ND is a two-component, 100% solids, heat-curing epoxy resin for use at elevated temperatures. The resin is resistant to dissolution and etching by a wide range of solvents and chemicals, and is ideal for bonding fiber optics, metals, glass, ceramics and most plastics.

2)353ND Unique Features:

  1. Very long operable time;
  2. Easy handling;
  3. Easy penetration into fiber optic bundles;
  4. Amber to deep red upon curing, assisting in determining complete cure by color rather than time;
  5. Low skin sensitization;
  6. When not in use, sealed storage, the maximum mixing volume is recommended not to exceed 25 grams。

3)353ND Suitable for use in thin films and slightly thicker films. When used in thicker applications, it is best to gel the colloid at room temperature or slightly above, then increase the temperature and cure for a short period of time.

4)353ND Suitable for painting, dipping, pouring or mechanical gluing processes.

Operating Instructions:

The following technical guidelines for practical application are provided for the user’s reference in the course of use:

1353ND Storage

353ND PartA&B requires storage at room temperature when unmixed and does not require refrigeration. If it is stored below 0°C, it must be rewarmed at room temperature for at least 3-4 hours before the A&B is mixed. This process is to avoid the formation of water within the Epoxy and to avoid air bubbles when the material is cured.

(2)353ND Part A&B Mixing Processes

  • As 353ND Part A&B is packaged in a 4 gram A-Pack plastic bag, the A&B components have been proportionally dispensed and packaged and are ready for application by mixing in the following steps:
  1. Remove the mandrel and squeeze hard from the end of component A to allow the resin to move toward the component B seal.
  2. Squeeze hard so that the resin can break through the interstitial layer.
  3. Then fix the end of the plastic bag and run the resin from end to end until component A and component B are completely mixed.
  4. Cut the end of the plastic bag and squeeze out the mixed 353ND for application.

2)If 353ND Part A & B are packaged in large quantities (e.g., tin cans, plastic bottles or glass bottles, etc.), first shake well the A and B components, then mix them in glassware at a ratio of 10 parts of Part A to 1 part of Part B until they are homogenized. If a large number of air bubbles are generated after mixing, the product should go through a defoaming process before application. There are two types of defoaming methods: vacuum defoaming and centrifugal defoaming.

(3) 353ND can be used after mixing time (Pot Life) and the amount of 353ND can be used after mixing time of 4 hours, so we should control the amount of use, so that the resin’s technical performance indicators to achieve the best. Because all the epoxy resins in the mixing, if beyond the usable time of its viscosity will therefore change and affect the adhesion, Epoxy Technology Inc. suggests that each use of the amount of the best not to exceed 25 grams.

4)Curing Time

The following curing time and temperature data are provided for users’ reference:

60℃: 1.5 hours

80℃: 15 minutes

100℃: 5 minutes

120℃: 2 minutes

150℃: 1 minute

353ND cures at 150°C or 200°C for the first 10 seconds, so the additional curing temperatures and times provided above are for reference only, and a portion of the heat is generated during curing itself. Under normal circumstances, it is not recommended to cure at temperatures above 150°C. It is best to cure at 150°C for 1 minute or at 80°C for 15 minutes. However, the actual curing time should be based on the curing response of the test product to 353ND.
